Planter (rectangular concrete with wooden base)
The Planter :
The planter itself is a contemporary design, combining a rectangular concrete pot with a wooden base. This style is a popular choice for showcasing succulents and adds a modern, minimalist aesthetic to a space. Concrete is an excellent material for succulent planters because it is porous, allowing water to evaporate quickly, which helps prevent root rot.
The Plant :
Haworthiopsis attenuata (Zebra Haworthia) CareZebra Haworthia is a popular and low-maintenance succulent that is suitable for both beginners and experienced plant owners.
Cares :
Light: This plant thrives in bright, indirect light. An east or west-facing window is often ideal because it provides morning or afternoon sun without the intensity of midday light, which can scorch the leaves. In low light conditions, the plant may become "leggy" or stretched out. Too much direct sun can cause the leaves to turn a reddish color or become white and dry.
Watering: Overwatering is the most common way to kill this succulent. The best method is to use the "soak and dry" technique: water the plant thoroughly, and then allow the soil to dry out completely before watering again. In the winter, when the plant is semi-dormant, it requires less frequent watering. Allowing water to sit in the rosette of leaves can lead to rot.
Soil: Zebra Haworthia needs a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus or succulent mix. This is crucial to prevent the roots from sitting in soggy conditions, which can cause root rot. You can amend a standard potting mix with sand, perlite, or pumice to improve drainage.
Temperature & Humidity: This succulent prefers average room temperatures, typically between 60°F and 80°F (15°C and 27°C). It can tolerate a range of temperatures but should be protected from frost. It does well in average household humidity and does not require misting.
Fertilizer: Fertilize sparingly, if at all. During the spring and summer growing season, you can feed the plant with a diluted cactus or succulent fertilizer once or twice.
Repotting: The plant grows slowly and remains compact, so it does not need frequent repotting. It is generally recommended to repot every two to three years in the spring to refresh the soil.
